The next step for GCS will be to obtain a Class VI Underground Injection Control (“UIC”) permit from the U.S. In 2018, North Dakota was the first state to receive primacy for Class VI UIC wells, which are used for long-term storage of carbon dioxide captured from industrial and energy related sources.

Specifically, the letter addressed the following circumstances: Plugging Requirements : Regulations require any well that has been identified by the operator as inactive with no future utility to be placed on a schedule of abandonment or plugged within 90 days.
